Flagler County deputies say Jeffrey Kimmel, 38, of Wappingers Falls, New York, erupted after being refused more alcohol at Sharps Discount Liquors around 2 PM.

What started as a verbal outburst quickly turned violent. According to witnesses, Kimmel jumped onto the counter, screaming, spitting, and hurling glass bottles across the store. Customers and employees locked themselves in a back room as Kimmel trashed shelves and display cases.

When deputies arrived, Kimmel was still perched on the counter with a knife tucked in his waistband. Deputies wrestled him down, but the situation only escalated outside.

Kimmel, bleeding from his own rampage, kicked, screamed, and spat blood at deputies until they were forced to place a spit mask over his head.

“This guy must have really wanted another drink, but he found out he’s not in New York, and we won’t tolerate behavior like this in Florida,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “If you attack a Deputy Sheriff, we will subdue you and take you to the Green Roof Inn.”

Kimmel now faces a laundry list of charges, including:

  • Burglary with assault or battery
  • Eight counts of battery on a law enforcement officer
  • Resisting with violence
  • Criminal mischief over $1,000

He is being held at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Facility on a $236,000 bond.

Kimmel, who has prior arrests for burglary, DUI, and stolen property, left behind a liquor store covered in shattered glass, spilled booze, and wrecked displays.

Deputies estimate he caused more than $20,000 in damages during the meltdown.
