Palm Coast homeowners can finally breathe a sigh of relief. After years of heated debate, city leaders have approved new rules that expand the range of house paint colors allowed across the community.

For years, Palm Coast’s ordinance only permitted muted earth tones or soft pastels within certain light-reflective ranges. Homeowners who pushed for bolder shades often found themselves in front of code enforcement — and in some cases, forced to repaint their homes.

City spokesperson Brittany Kershaw said about ten houses were still tied up in code cases when the council voted to update the policy this week. “Those cases will be closed,” Kershaw confirmed.

Supporters of the change argue that giving residents more freedom over their home’s appearance could even boost property values, while also reducing tension between neighbors and city officials.

Still, not everyone is convinced. Some residents worry that brighter colors could lead to clashing designs that disrupt neighborhood aesthetics.

For now, the decision officially closes one of Palm Coast’s most colorful disputes, and opens the door to a livelier future for local neighborhoods.
